POL is the native token of the Polygon ecosystem, serving as the primary currency for paying gas fees on Polygon PoS. Previously known as MATIC, it was rebranded to POL as part of the Polygon 2.0 upgrade.

How POL gas fees work:

• Every transaction on Polygon PoS requires POL to pay for computational resources.
• Gas fee is automatically deducted from your wallet in the same transaction.
• 1 POL equals 1,000,000,000 Gwei.
• The base fee is permanently burned; the priority fee goes to validators.

Getting POL: Purchase on major exchanges such as Binance, Coinbase, or Kraken and bridge to Polygon via the Polygon Bridge, or receive directly from another user. Keep a small POL balance to cover fees. Failed transactions do not refund gas.
